Max heart rate (MHR) is the highest heart rate attainable. The most common estimate involves subtracting a person's age from the number 220, however, that is just a guideline. Some people can exercise at, near, or even above their "max" heart rate with no ill effect, however, exercising near the MHR is not recommended for some individuals.
