Ligaments are the fibrous tissue that connect bone to bone.[1] The most common type, the articular ligament, is a short band of tough fibrous connective tissue composed mainly of long, stringy collagen fibers. Ligaments connect bones to other bones to form a joint.[2] A common misconception is that they connect muscles to bones, however, that is incorrect, as that is the function of tendons.
