Capillaries are the smallest of the body's blood vessels, which normally connect the arteries to the veins[1] by way of arterioles and venules. Capillaries enable the interchange of water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and many other nutrient and waste chemical substances between blood and surrounding tissues.[2]
